Winsford (pop 370) is often called the prettiest village on Exmoor. Lying in a valley to the north of Dulverton, it is steeped in history and has eight bridges over the many small streams. It is so called as it lies on the Winn brook where it converges with the River Exe. The village boasts one church, one thatched inn, one village shop, a tea rooms and a guest house. It is situated right in the heart of Exmoor and is well situated for those visitors who enjoy walking, pony trekking or fishing. In the village of Winsford itself, everything is peaceful. Morning rush hour is two tractors going up the road. There are no traffic jams, double yellow lines, parking meters, traffic wardens, bus lanes, or anything else that you just long to get away from. |
